Despite the Man Utd v Spurs, evening match that was ahead of them Liverpool kept their eye on what they could influence in the Premier League title race yesterday with a 3-1 away win at the KC stadium.
Xabi Alonso scored the first goal for the Reds, smashing a 25 yard screaming volley after his free kick had been blocked and rebounded to him for a second try. Conceding just before the half time break proved to be a killer blow for the Tigers.
Then it was Dirk Kuyt who added a second in the 63rd minute with a close range header. Things then got worse for Hull when Caleb Folan got a red card for kicking Reds defender Martin Skrtel.
Phil Brown’s team kept fighting though and their efforts were rewarded with a goal from Tigers favourite Geovanni who found some space in the Liverpool box to rifle home from close range.
In the 89th minute, Arbeloa took a shot that rebounded back to him and he made no mistake the second time to take this hard fought match out of the home team’s reach.
Phil Brown will be more than aware that their form will need to pick up and convert into points in order to retain Premier League status for next season as this loss takes them to fourth from bottom with Boro and Newcastle both having a game in hand on them.
