Chivu apologises for punch on Rossi : During Inter’s 3-0 win against Bari last night, Christian Chivu inexplicably threw a punch at Marco Rossi. After the game the Romanian (who will almost definitely face a lengthy ban) apologised for his actions.

Inter were just coming into what had been a frustrating game against Bari at the San Nicola when Chivu seemingly threw an unprovoked punch at Rossi. He amazingly stayed on the pitch although he is certain to face disciplinary action.

Chivu spoke to Sky Sport Italia about the incident immediately after the game and profusely apologised for his shameful acts.

“It is difficult to explain, I am here because I want to apologise to Rossi, with all the dignity that I have left. I apologise to everyone, above all my two children who one day will watch this clip.”

Inter boss Leonardo also had his say on the matter in the post match press conference and stated that he had talked to his player and will discuss the issue in private once more.

“The Chivu incident? We've spoken about it and he will too. To be honest I didn't see the episode. However I believe that what's wrong, is wrong, even if these things happen. They happen, but they shouldn't.”

Leonardo may have more understanding than most about moments of madness after he himself was once suspended for four games after elbowing the American midfielder Tab Ramos in USA 94.

Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas slated on Twitter by Huddersfield’s Pilkington

Soccer Extreme : Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas has been notable on Twitter lately and we’ve already posted an article involving Fabregas teasing a teammate about his hair on Twitter, and also recently told how Fabregas was on the receiving end of some praise from Rio Ferdinand on his Twitter account.

Now though it seems as though Fabregas is on the receiving end of some Twitter criticism instead, from Huddersfield’s Anthony Pilkington. It followed the Arsenal encounter with Huddersfield in an F.A. Cup round, which was a rather eventful match. It saw Sebastien Squillaci sent off and then Arsenal gaining a penalty from an incident involving Nicholas Bendtner appearing to have been pushed over by Jamie McCombe, according to a report by Ted Thornhill over on Metro.

Fabregas incited the rage of Huddersfield’s fans when he appeared to be trying to get the referee to send off McCombe by waving an imaginary red card at him. Fabregas then converted the penalty that saw Arsenal win 2-1. It was not exactly a good-natured game but events after the final whistle led to Hudderfield Town’s Anthony Pilkington accusing Fabregas of disrespecting two of his teammates by refusing to swap shirts. Pilkington then accused Fabregas on Twitter saying, “2 lads asked him for his shirt and he told them to f*ck off!! Sick player but what a tit!”

Arsenal countered the claims by saying that Fabregas had in fact given two of his shirts to opposing team members and Pilkington has now shut his Twitter account down and apologized. Soccer Extreme : Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal and captain Philipp Lahm have played down an altercation between Arjen Robben and Thomas Mueller after the team's 3-1 Bundesliga victory at Werder Bremen on Saturday.

The Dutch winger Robben is said to have grabbed World Cup top scorer Mueller by the throat after the final whistle, allegedly disgusted that Mueller made a disparaging gesture after he executed a late free-kick poorly which he did not want Mueller to take.

'I really hate it when the players throw up their arms in such a way on the pitch. That is not respectful and we shouldn't be doing that,' said Robben.

Anatoly Tymoshchuk separated the two players. Mueller did not comment while Lahm said the issue would only be discussed internally.

Van Gaal said he didn't see what exactly Robben did but said that player should discuss issues.



'It is common in the Netherlands that we argue and speak out what is on our mind. There is a different culture in Germany,' van Gaal said.

The issue made more headlines on Sunday in the German media than the 3-1 victory with which Munich climbed into third place in the league. Robben only returned to action a fortnight ago from a hamstring injury which had sidelined him since July. (AFP)

Colin 'Braveheart' Hendry's drink and gambling fight

Soccer Extreme : Former Blackburn Rovers and Scotland footballer Colin Hendry has told how he battled alcohol and gambling following the death of his wife Denise.

Hendry, who was declared bankrupt in June, said caring for his four children and dealing with the bankruptcy process was helping him turn his life round.

His wife died in 2009, seven years after a failed liposuction operation.

Hendry, 45, said: "I'm not a bad guy, I've made mistakes in my life, like most people have."

Hendry, who lives in Lytham St Anne's, Lancashire, spoke of how his wife's death had hit him hard.

"It is very cruel for someone to lose their life, she was a very happy-go-lucky lady, a beautiful woman, great mother... just the best," said the former Scotland captain.

"I did drink quite a lot initially; alcohol seemed to be a get-out for me.

"Really there is nothing you can do, all that you can do is try to put a smile on the kids' faces."

A bankruptcy hearing was told that online betting firm SpreadEx was one of Hendry's creditors.

He told BBC Radio Manchester: "I gambled, not as badly as has been reported, it was a get-out for me - that's what I've done wrong, as well as having a drink.

She had been on life support for six weeks in 2002 after she suffered multiple organ failure following a liposuction procedure at a private hospital.

She suffered nine punctures to her bowel and colon during the original operation at Broughton Park hospital near Preston and later developed blood poisoning.

Lawyers later secured a six-figure damages settlement in November 2006, while the surgeon voluntarily applied to be removed from the General Medical Council's register. (wirednews)

Soccer Extreme : To most people, including myself, Zinedine Zidane is best known as that French soccer player guy who headbutted that other soccer player guy during the 2006 FIFA World Cup Finals against Italy (don’t act like you’re not impressed by my international soccer acumen). Now, perhaps he will be known also as a whiny little jagoff with no sense of humor who goes after comedians for cracking jokes about him in magazines interviews.

Lawyer Alberto Brusso said he was suing comedian Christophe Aleveque and the magazine Sportmag over harsh words he used to describe Zidane in an interview published last month.

In the interview, Aleveque attacks Zidane for acting as official ambassador to Qatar’s candidacy for the World Cup in 2022, which the tiny oil-rich state won over a slew of other nations including the United States.

“Mister Zinedine Zidane considers that these remarks are harmful to his honour, his dignity, his integrity, his reputation as a man and a public person as well as that of his family,” lawyer Alberto Brusa said in a statement.

Jeez, wouldn’t it have been a lot easier just to go and heckle this guy at one of his comedy shows? Do lawyers always have to get involved? But what did this sharp-tongued comedian say about him that so wrongly disparaged Zidane’s so-called glowing reputation ?

“To me it is a form of prostitution. This guy is a whore! Write it! I swear, what he does, it is always based on his navel. It’s disgusting. Jermaine Pennant Forgot He Owned 98,000 Porsche

Soccer Extreme : A spokesperson for Jermaine Pennant has laughed off reports the Stoke City star left a Porsche abandoned at Zaragoza train station for five months.

The spokesperson said: "I have spoken to Jermaine and he said it is untrue."
Spanish paper Marca had claimed that his former club Real Zaragoza had to get in touch with him this week to tell him about the car.

The paper claimed that when Pennant was contacted by Zaragoza about the car, he admitted he did not remember anything about it.

Marca also said that Zaragoza were then forced to open the car and were surprised to find that the keys were on the seat.

Pennant is a big fan of cars and has a sportscar collection.

The former Arsenal and Liverpool star signed for Zaragoza on a free transfer in the summer of 2009 but he struggled to make an impact with the Liga side.

During his spell in Spain he infuriated coach José Aurelio Gay after turning up late for training three times in the space of two weeks.

Last August he signed for Stoke City on a four-month loan deal which was then made permanent in December.

Pennant was once deemed one of the hottest prospects in the game, and played 24 times for the England U21s, but the 28-year-old has never won a full England cap. (eurosport)

Gattuso's elbow to lead Pato

Soccer Extreme : Clarence Seedorf has played down Rino Gattuso's argument with Alexandre Pato during Milan's 1-1 draw with Lecce at the Via del Mare last night.

Gattuso had grown frustrated with Pato, who was particularly wasteful, and went over to have a few choice words with his teammate.

Seedorf was then seen lightly tugging at Gattuso's elbow to lead the player away.

“At times things can seem bigger than they actually are,” Seedorf explained. “They were only talking about a cross…

Babel accepts Twitter charge

Soccer Extreme : Liverpool forward Ryan Babel has admitted a charge of improper conduct in relation to him posting remarks about, and a picture of, referee Howard Webb on Twitter.

The Holland international has requested a personal hearing and that will take place next Monday, January 17.

After Sunday's FA Cup exit at Manchester United, where Liverpool conceded a controversial first-minute penalty and had captain Steven Gerrard sent off, Babel posed a mocked-up picture of Webb wearing a United shirt. He also wrote: "And they call him one of the best referees? That's a joke. SMH (shaking my head)."

The 24-year-old quickly posted an apology but it could not prevent him becoming the first person to be charged by the Football Association for an indiscretion on the social networking site.

In the wake of the charge Babel was backed by both manager Kenny Dalglish and Gordon Taylor, chief executive of the Professional Footballers' Association.

"I think it is only a bit of fun, a joke. Maybe I've been out of the game too long," said Dalglish.

Taylor felt the FA over-reacted to what he thought was not a serious issue.

"I thought a warning letter would suffice," he said on Tuesday.

"But it may be they need to put a marker down for the future because these sites are being accessed by the media so it can be the equivalent of being on the television or being in the national press.

Soccer Extreme : Two players, both born to Ghanaian parents, Mario Balotelli and Jerome Boateng were engaged in a fierce exchange of blows while training with their English club Manchester City of Friday.

Balotelli’s notoriety as one of the more combustible characters in English football increased today after he was involved in a flashpoint with Boateng who is known to be a calm person.

Both players were born to Ghanaian parents but represent Italy (Balotelli) and Germany (Boateng) at international level.

At the club’s practice ground, Balotelli reacted angrily to a challenge from Boateng and the two players had to be separated after they squared up to each other.

Witnesses said the altercation lasted for only a few seconds and that the pair later shook hands.

A senior club official told the Guardian that it was the kind of confrontation that happens at all clubs and that there would be no lasting repercussions.

Nonetheless, the incident will represent an embarrassment for Manchester City after several weeks of reports of a fractious atmosphere at the club.

Today, City’s manager, Roberto Mancini, had to pull Balotelli away as other players attempted to calm both players down.

Photographers captured the moment, however, and it will do little to relieve the troublesome reputation Balotelli brought with him when he signed from Internazionale for £25m in August.

Mancini has had to fend off questions about the spirit within his squad since the striker Emmanuel Adebayor had a heated argument with Vincent Kompany during a defeat by Wolverhampton Wanderers in October.

That followed an argument between Yaya Touré and James Milner a week before.

Mancini has also had problems with Adebayor, about the player’s attitude, and was involved in an angry confrontation with his captain, Carlos Tevez, that members of the coaching staff had to split up.

Balotelli has scored five goals in six matches for City but the 20-year-old has not made himself popular at Eastlands.

A delegation of players is said to have confronted Mancini recently about his supposedly giving the Italian preferential treatment.

Roberto Mancini caught up in row over Mario Balotelli

Soccer Extreme : Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has had a blazing row with four of his players, who claim he is giving striker Mario Balotelli special treatment.

Emmanuel Adebayor, Shaun-Wright Phillips, Joleon Lescott and Wayne Bridge confronted their boss the day after the goalless Manchester derby, when striker Balotelli left training early even though he hadn't played the night before.

They told Mancini, who recently accused players of laziness, does not apply his usual rules to the former Inter Milan striker, who arrived in August for about $45 million.

"The lads are not happy because they are not playing as much as they'd like to be, but they work hard,' said a source.

'Balotelli is Mancini's blue-eyed boy because he came from Inter.'

Adebayor was furious at having only played a few minutes as an injury-time substitute, and kicked over a tactics board after the game.

Balotelli is on a five-year contract but could be leaving next summer. He was seen dining with AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani this week.

Soccer Extreme : A day after he tried to kick a ball out of Robinho's shirt during a goal celebration, a week after he got in a training ground fight with Oguchi Onyewu, and two months after he kicked teammate Rodney Strasser in the back for seemingly no reason whatsoever, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been given an honorary black belt in Taekwondo in Italy.

Of course, this honor actually has nothing to do with any of those incidents. Zlatan first earned a black belt in Taekwondo when he was 17. But if anyone were to get a black belt for attacking teammates, it would certainly be Ibra. (yahoo)

Wesley Sneijder suffering from anemia

Soccer Extreme : Well we seem to have got the bottom of what ills Wesley Sneijder. According to Sneijder has been diagnosed with anemia after passing out at half-time of Saturday’s match with Brescia.

“I started to shake and felt pain in my entire body,” Sneijder told Dutch daily De Telegraaf. “In the changing room I got sick and passed out briefly. My heart and blood pressure were checked immediately. Later I traveled to the Netherlands for a second opinion. The conclusion was that I have anemia and my whole body is exhausted.”

Sneijder played a lot of football last year as first Inter won the treble, then he led Netherlands to the World Cup final and then he got married!! He is simply exhausted!!

Gald that it is not a serious illness or injury that Sneijder has. I would think that given him a week to ten days off will allow his body to recover a little, and that going forward Rafa needs to make sure he rotates other players in Sneijder’s spot during the rest of the season.

Newcastle Players Cocaine Orgy

Soccer Extreme : A story in a tabloid newspaper, which contained pictures of a white powder claimed to be the Class A drug at Nolan's £1million Darras Hall home, alleged the pair celebrated Newcastle's 5-1 win over Sunderland last week with a 14-hour drinking session, ending in a drug-fuelled orgy.

But the players have released a joint statement through their club denying any knowledge of cocaine being present while also questioning the validity of the paper's claims, which makes no suggestion either player used the drug.

'Kevin Nolan and Andy Carroll (pic) categorically deny having any knowledge that drugs had been brought onto the premises and are pleased that the paper does not even allege that they were aware of the presence of drugs,' the statement reads.

'Neither player would ever contemplate taking drugs or condone the use of such substances.

'The club and the players named are sure that if the editor felt his story had any truth he would already have reported this to the police.'

A club spokesman also confirmed the story had been 'passed to its legal advisers'.

Northumbria Police have confirmed there is no investigation into any incident at Nolan's home on the weekend of October 30th.

A spokesman said: 'We have not so far received a complaint about this matter.

'We always take reports of this nature very seriously and we will respond appropriately.'

Carroll, who scored the winning goal in Newcastle's 1-0 victory at Arsenal on Sunday, has found himself on the front pages rather than the back on a number of occasions this year.

He was ordered to stay with Nolan by magistrates in Hexham, Northumberland, after he was charged with assaulting an ex-girlfriend.

Days later his £70,000 customised, chrome-plated Range Rover was torched while parked in Nolan's drive and graffiti aimed at Carroll was scrawled across Nolan's garage door.

Less than a week after the arson attack, Carroll was ordered to pay a fine of £1,000 at Newcastle Crown Court after he admitted accidentally glassing a reveller in a city centre nightclub. (metro)

Jermaine Defoe reveals family concerns at uncle missing in St Lucia hurricane

Soccer Extreme : The 28-year-old Tottenham Hotspur player, whose family are from the Caribbean island, told how his family were frantic with worry for his uncle as he launched an appeal to help victims of the hurricane.

The country has been devastated by the hurricane, which left behind widespread destruction, flooding and claimed at least 14 lives. Many more people are missing a feared dead in the disaster.

Defoe told the Daily Mirror, who he writes a column for, that his family had not heard from his uncle since the hurricane.

He said: "No one has seen my uncle. We are out of our minds with worry."

Defoe also begged members of the public to offer their help to the people of St Lucia.

On Thursday he delivered more than 1,000 books for children on the Caribbean island to the St Lucia High Commission in London along with charity Kids Taskforce.

He was accompanied with his mother Sandra St Helen and sister Chonte Defoe to launch the appeal for help.

Defoe is an ambassador for Kids Taskforce, which promotes child safety, and he chose four schools on in St Lucia that would benefit from the books.

Appealing for help for the victims, said: "It's a beautiful place with kind people. Their lives have been turned upside down, kids can't go to school, people are missing. We must help."

The High Commissioner of St Lucia Eldridge Stephens said the charity's help was timely following the impact of the hurricane.

In a statement, Mr Eldridge said the St Lucian government appreciated the messages of sympathy and goodwill.

He added: "Saint Lucians are noted for their resilience and robust spirit in times of disaster and crises.

"It is also their dominant spirit of community and love for one another that will serve Saint Lucians in good stead as they struggle on their way to recovery and reconstruction of beautiful Saint Lucia."

Hurricane Tomas has also caused widespread flooding in Haiti, turning refugee camps set up in the wake of the earthquake into rivers of mud and killing seven people. (telegraph)

Ibra - Onyewu Hugs and Kisses

Soccer Extreme : Massimiliano Allegri (pic) assures the Zlatan Ibrahimovic-Oguchi Onyewu brawl ended “in hugs and kisses,” but he must change Milan in Bari.

The headlines over the past 24 hours have been dominated by the training ground spat between the two players, which reportedly saw Onyewu grab Ibra by the throat and at least 10 teammates struggled to separate them.

“It all ended in hugs and kisses, we’re happy,” smiled the Coach with a hint of irony. “The truth is the whole incident was rather blown up a bit.”

There are more pressing issues, such as the absence of Thiago Silva, Luca Antonini, Massimo Oddo, Daniele Bonera and the suspended Kevin Prince Boateng for the trip to Bari.
