Preview: Blackburn v Chelsea

Soccer Extreme : The proposed takeover of Blackburn is at least giving fans something to talk about other than their problems on the pitch.

Rovers have failed to win at Ewood Park in the league since the opening day of the season and they host Chelsea on the back of a poor performance against fellow strugglers Liverpool.

They have been hampered by injuries and suspensions and those of an optimistic disposition will point to the fact that Rovers have also only lost once at home this term.

But Sam Allardyce's defence will have to be at their most resilient against Chelsea, even if the Premier League champions have failed to find the back of the net in their last two away games.

The continued absence of Frank Lampard for Chelsea has barely been noticed, with the impressive performances of Ramires, Michael Essien and Jon Obi Mikel.

In fact the Chelsea first XI is looking more and more settled with each game and they will head to Lancashire aiming to keep their enviable record against Sam Allardyce's men.

They have lost just once in the Premier League at Ewood Park since 1997 and have won three of their last four league fixtures at Rovers.

Key Match-up: Ryan Nelsen v Didier Drogba. New Zealand defender Nelsen is back after sitting out the last two games with a hamstring strain. His absence was singled out as one of the key reasons Rovers lost against Liverpool and his presence in the back four is key to the side maintaining their reputation for being miserly. But Drogba has shown that he can not only turn on the style to score – as he did against Arsenal – he can mix it with the most robust defences if necessary.

Form guide: Blackburn have been solid if not spectacular at home, with a loss against Arsenal their only defeat so far. But their Monday night stalemate against Sunderland showed they are unlikely to trouble the top-scoring charts come the season's end. Chelsea, meanwhile have not won on the road in the league since early September's trouncing of West Ham. Since then they lost at Manchester City and played out a goalless draw against Aston Villa.
