"He is now here writing a new chapter, and that should be a positive one."
Lukas Podolski also comes up against his former club, this time wearing the armband as Cologne captain.
Bayern's new captain is Philipp Lahm, who was given the armband after Mark van Bommel's sale to AC Milan.
His first game in charge was a success with a 3-1 win at Werder Bremen last weekend and he is enjoying the new responsibility.
"I love to be the leader," he told the Bild newspaper. "But I don't want to be a dictator.
"That doesn't work nowadays. I would like to be a captain who is open to discussions on any level, a good person for my team-mates, the coach, the board and the public to talk to."
Arjen Robben is a doubt for Bayern due to a cold, but Franck Ribery could make a surprise return to the squad.
He was able to train fully yesterday, three weeks after suffering a knee injury, and could find a place on the bench.
