Soccer Extreme : The 28-year-old had earlier been charged by the Football Association over the incident during Wednesday night’s 2-1 Premier League defeat at home to Blackburn.
Barton said: ‘I fully accept I was in the wrong.
'I would like to apologise to [manager] Chris Hughton, my team-mates, our supporters and of course to Morten Gamst Pedersen and Blackburn.’
Barton has a long history of misdemeanours both on and off the field, but had seemed to put his troubled past behind him with a string of impressive performances this season. (metro)
