Watch free Online Real Betis vs Barcelona live stream online free January 19, 2011 Copa Del Rey - Information of the match between Real Betis vs Barcelona will be play at January 19, 2011, 22.00 GMT - Copa Del Rey. We hope The fans of both team can enjoy with the live score, Real Betis vs Barcelona preview, recaps and highlights here.

Preview : Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola, “This is the best first leg result we have ever got from a cup tie, but if it was all decided, we wouldn’t be travelling”

“We are travelling out of respect for the opposition, who we imagined would be strong, but we have to be careful after the first leg because they have well founded arguments that they are going to cause us problems”

“I have ideas about the team. Against another team I might have used reserve players, but not against Betis no … It is not a game for relaxation or discharging anything. It is a fully-charged game in which we have to compete hard and play to win”

“We are not going to defend any result, but to win. It would be good for us to take it seriously … I hope that when they see the pictures I have to show them tomorrow, that they’ll realise just what we are up against”

“by competing as we have done until now … I’d like to feel at the end of the year that we have won things because we were the best … There is no guarantee that the second half of the season will be as good for us as the first was. If there is a team that still has lives, then that’s Madrid. It is great to have four more points than them, but there are 19 games still to play”

“We wanted to have a very close look closely at how capable he is of playing for us, and we now know he (Thiago) is. But there are more of us now that Afellay is here, and Thiago is too young to be sitting on the bench. I want him to play games … He is a very special player, unique in many ways … Whenever he has played for us he has given us something different”

Preview : Deportivo La Coruna coach Miguel Angel Lotina made clear after last week’s 1-0 defeat in Almeria that the Copa del Rey is certainly not a priority for the Galician club. Onlookers would have realised that to be the case when Depor’s team selection was announced, with many of their top players on the bench.

Languishing in the lower reaches of the Primera Division, the north eastern club are certainly not safe from the spectre of relegation, though a promising spurt just before Christmas has managed to push them five points clear of Zaragoza.

Last week’s decision to rest his big players for the Copa tie did not help Depor at the weekend either. Faced with a Valencia side intent on reaching next season’s Champions League, they battled bravely but fell short at the Mestalla, going down 2-0 due to late goals from Jeremy Mathieu and Pablo Hernandez.

“I didn’t notice any effect physically from Thursday’s game in Almeria,” Lotina explained to the press after the fixture. “We did not take our chances and they had the punch.”

The most defensive team in La Primera, Depor can be painful viewing at times, but if they are to have any chance of progressing through to the semi-finals of the Copa, they must show some ambition against their Andalucian rivals.

Almeria took a rather different tact to the Galicians last Thursday, playing a strong team, despite knowing that Real Madrid were lying in wait on Sunday. This proved a masterstroke by Jose Luis Oltra, whose side gained the upper hand against Depor and then sensationally held Real Madrid to a Sunday draw.

Rather than using the Copa del Rey as a sideshow, the former Tenerife coach instead used it as a breeding ground for confidence, and after picking up a 1-1 draw against los Blancos on Sunday they must be incredibly buoyant.

“We have managed a draw against a great team,” Oltra beamed after Sunday’s fixture. “I hope it’s a turning point, a morale boost. The team is growing.”

The coach has only had a limited effect on proceedings at the Estadio del Mediterraneo since taking charge in late November. Almeria remain rooted to the foot of the standings, two points from safety, but fuelled by the positive momentum they have gained over the course of the last week will be hopeful of an unlike appearance in the Copa semi-finals.

Preview Match : In that game Cesc Fabregas's 90th-minute penalty rescued a draw for Arsenal Robert Snodgrass had put Leeds ahead from the spot. Arsenal have not lost in the third round since 1996 – when they were beaten, in a replay in Yorkshire by a team from the second tier.

Match Preview : Kenny Dalglish will return to the dugout for his first home game since being restored to the helm against Everton on Sunday - the team his last Anfield clash was against 20 years ago.

Supporters are always vocal and passionate about every Merseyside Derby, but fans are expected to raise the roof as the King walks out of the tunnel and takes his place on the touchline.

Speaking about the upcoming derby, former Red Alan Hansen said: "I expect the atmosphere against Everton to be absolutely phenomenal, it'll be some game!"

Liverpool were unable to secure city bragging rights the last time the two sides met back in October. Everton comfortably won 2-0 in what was then manager Roy Hodgson's derby debut.

Many ex-Liverpool legends and footballing stars have spoken out about the recent appointment of Dalglish and the Scot will be looking for a clear win at Anfield to back up the praise he has been receiving.

But no doubt Dalglish will instruct his team to watch out for the talent of in-form Everton youngster Seamus Coleman. The right-sided Irish player is an emerging talent and David Moyes has rewarded his form of late with a regular starting position. Two goals and one assist in his last four matches have impressed both the Everton boss and the Goodison fans.

Liverpool and Everton have taken part in 97 Derby games at Anfield, with the Reds winning 40, losing 24 and drawing 33.

144 goals have been scored against Everton on home turf and Dalglish will be hoping star striker Fernando Torres will add to that tally.

Match Facts

Liverpool : Daniel Agger, Martin Kelly, Christian Poulsen and Daniel Agger recently received encouraging words from manager Kenny Dalglish, and could all be set to start this game. Jamie Carragher (shoulder) remains sidelined following his surgery, while Joe Cole and Jay Spearing are doubts for this one. Steven Gerrard will play no part in this game since he is suspended.

Everton : David Moyes has revealed that the Toffees have accepted an offer for Steven Pienaar from an unnamed club, but the South Africa international could still play in this game. Phil Jagielka (thigh) was expected to be in contention to feature in the Merseyside derby, but he has been unable to recover well enough to take part in the mammoth encounter at Anfield. Tim Cahill is unavailable since he is away on international duty at the Asian Cup.

Preview Match : When Tottenham ended the 2000/01 season on a jubilant high with a 3-1 victory over Manchester United, Ryan Giggs shrugged off defeat knowing a seventh Premier League winners' medal was already safely in his trophy cabinet.

His [Ryan Giggs's] fitness was fantastic last week, he was going for the whole 90 minutes up and down the pitch, and he's been doing that for two decades... There is no other player that's ever done that or ever likely to do that... He's quite an amazing man "Man Utd boss Sir Alex Ferguson"

We have been playing well though. We have been in top form. We have lost once in the last 13 games and that shows the kind of form we're in so it's a great game to look forward to "Spurs boss Harry Redknapp"

A decade on, the Welsh winger will make his 600th league appearance in United colours with his place as the most decorated player in the history of English football secure, and his form still as resplendent as ever.

Little did Tottenham know that after a further 23 fixtures against United they would not have enjoyed a single victory. Spurs can rightly point to being on the end of some woeful refereeing decisions in that time, but the gap in class between the two sides over the last 10 years has been vast.

This season though, Spurs have finally emerged as a genuine force, and Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson knows protecting his side's unbeaten record this season faces a stern test at White Hart Lane.

Historically, this fixture has always been viewed as one of the most exciting and eagerly anticipated of the season. It has been too one-sided of late, but Spurs look like they may finally be able to fight the fire of the Red Devils.

Match Facts

  • Tottenham are unbeaten in their last four home matches in the league against Big Four opposition. Their only defeat in their last 10 matches at White Hart Lane against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester United was 3-1 against Sir Alex Ferguson's United side in September 2009.
  • That match was the only one of Harry Redknapp's 45 home league games in charge that Tottenham have conceded more than two goals at White Hart Lane.
  • Rafael van der Vaart has scored nine league goals this season, five of which have been assisted by Peter Crouch.
  • Manchester United have now gone 25 Premier League matches without losing, their third longest ever top-flight streak and only four matches short of their record 29 undefeated top-flight matches in 1998/1999.
  • The Red Devils are unbeaten in 20 Premier League outings this season, and have lost just one of their 32 games in all competitions (v West Ham).
  • Former Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov has scored eight goals in his last five Premier League matches.
  • Ryan Giggs is set to make his 600th league appearance for Manchester United - only Bobby Charlton (606) has made more.

BREAKNEWS :

MATCH PREVIEW

The AFF Suzuki Cup is poised for a climactic finish with fierce rivals Malaysia and Indonesia locking horns in the home and away final on Boxing Day and December 29.

Indonesia, the great underachievers of Asean football, overcame a robust Philippines side 2-0 on aggregate in their last-four clash to end the Azkals' fairytale run in the biennial event that grips the region.

The tactically astute K. Rajagobal steered the young tigers of Malaysia into the final for the first time since the inaugural championship in 1996 with a 2-0 aggregate victory over defending champions Vietnam.

A couple of goalkeeping slip-ups cost Vietnam dear in the away leg of the semi-final with striker Safee Sali scoring twice and Malaysia stood firm in the cauldron-like atmosphere of the My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi to record a famous victory.

Indonesia beat Malaysia 5-1 in their opening group game of the tournament but the scoreline did not accurately reflect the closeness of the encounter and neither camp expects a similarly lopsided result in the final.

Malaysia conceded several soft goals but the players have grown in stature during the tournament and will not be giving away any late Christmas presents in the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on December 26.

Indonesia will be contesting their fourth final having fallen at the last hurdle to Thailand in 2000 (4-1 in one-off final) and 2002 (4-2 on penalties after 2-2 draw) and Singapore in 2004 (5-2 on aggregate).

They met Malaysia at the semi-final stage in 2004 and after losing 2-1 at home went further behind in the return leg at the Bukit Jalil Stadium before bouncing back with four second-half goals to earn a 5-3 aggregate victory.

Having played all their matches at Fortress Jakarta, there is the danger that Indonesia will be spooked by the hostile reception that awaits them from the capacity crowd in Kuala Lumpur.

Coach Alfred Riedl will be keen for them to settle quickly and skipper Firman Utina and Muhammad Ridwan to take control of the midfield and supply the ammunition for barrel-chested hitman Cristian Gonzales, whose two strikes against the Philippines in the semi-finals took him to the top of the scoring charts with three goals.

Irfan Bachdim, the new poster boy of Indonesia football, missed the second leg of the semi-final because of injury but if fit to return his incisive running and sharpness in the box could prove crucial to the outcome.

Indonesia looked jittery at the back against both Thailand and the Philippines with 'keeper Markus Harison suspect under the high ball, a point that will have not been lost on the astute Rajagobal.

Sali has the pace and trickery to worry the Indonesian defence and given good service from Norshahrul Idlan and S. Kunanlan could be Malaysia's match-winner again.

Rajogobal knows that Malaysia need goals in the home leg but will want his young side to settle into the match before venturing forward in numbers.

Group A (Dec 1, 2010) Indonesia vs Malaysia

'Keeper Khairul Fahmi has been a revelation since replacing Sharbinee Allawee after the 5-1 loss to Indonesia and has only conceded one goal in four matches.

Safiq Raman and Muslim Ahmad have played every minute of every game for Malaysia and Rajagobal will be looking for another 180 minutes of endeavour from the duo to stifle Indonesia's attacking threat.

It promises to be a contest for the ages with both teams looking to be crowned kings of Asean football for the first time. (affsuzukicup)

PREVIEW : INDONESIA COMMITTED TO ATTACK !

Indonesia assistant coach Wolfgang Pikal has insisted that his side will not be adopting a defensive attitude to protect their one-goal advantage when they face the Philippines in the second leg of their AFF Suzuki Cup semi-final at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Sunday.

Cristian Gonzales' first-half-header has given the hosts a precious 1-0 advantage going into the return match. But according to Pikal, that is unlikely to change the attacking philosophy of the Indonesian side for the second leg.

"We have a team which is attack-minded and we like to play an open game," said the Austrian.

"We don't forget to defend, of course, but because we're playing at home, we also feel that we have the responsibility to our fans to play an open game."

While Vietnam coach Henrique Calisto blasted the defensive approach of the Filipino side after his side lost 2-0 to the Azkals earlier in the tournament, Pikal believes that his opponents are perfectly within their rights to play that way.

"I think that the Philippines team is very good and how they play is the choice of their coach.

"If they want to play defensively then we have nothing to complain about – after all in the UEFA Champions League, Inter Milan played at the back for 90 minutes against Barcelona and nobody complained. They can play how they want and nobody should complain.

"They also have some good players and we will have to try to anticipate their qualities."

Pikal did reveal that his team have a couple of fitness concerns heading into the match with skipper Firman Utina and striker Irfan Bachdim nursing injuries.

"Firman Utina and Irfan Bachdim have had slight knocks and some problems. But our physio has been working very hard to make them fit. We still have 30 hours to go before the game so we will evaluate them and make a decision on whether they will play by lunchtime tomorrow."

Having won all four of their games so far in the tournament, Indonesia are the favourites to reach the final and win it all. However, Pikal feels that the expectations now being weighed on the team by the Indonesian media and public may not be in the best interests of the players.

"The expectations now are very high," he lamented. "There was no reason at the beginning of the tournament for such high expectations because we haven't won anything in Indonesia for a long time.

"But we started very well and it's like a snowball effect because all of the media – not only the sports media but the entertainment and celebrity channels – have hitched up on it and they've fired up the whole thing. I think it is not good for the players. (affsuzukicup)

Preview : Juventus vs Manchester City, Dec 16, 2010

Soccer Extreme : Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli have been omitted from the Manchester City squad to face Juventus in the Europa League in Turin.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini will talk with Carlos Tevez on Friday about the Argentinian's transfer request.

Tevez handed in a transfer request last weekend, whilst former Inter Milan star Balotelli was racially abused by Juventus supporters last season.

Emmanuel Adebayor has a knock and Roque Santa Cruz is not on the Europa League squad list, so Jo is the only senior striker in the squad.

Nicola Legrottaglie assures Juventus will "honour the shirt" against Manchester City, despite being knocked out of the Europa League without losing a game in the group stages.

"I have been at Juventus for many years, so I know there is no such thing as a friendly," said Legrottaglie.

"Nobody wants to be embarrassed and we all want to honour the shirt. On top of that, this is an important opportunity for those of us who haven't had the chance to play much so far. "We can give the coach some tough decisions to make.

TEAM NEWS

Juventus

The Old Lady had been sweating over the long-term fitness of midfielder Claudio Marchisio, who sustained a calf injury in Sunday’s game against Lazio, although he is out for the City game, it is not as serious as first thought.

Veteran Italy keeper Gianlugi Buffon is still injured having not played a game for Juve all season. Although Marco Storari played against Lazio, Alex Manninger is the likelier starter.

Right-back Zdenek Grygera may return after five weeks out in this dead rubber.

Possible starting XI: Manninger; Grygera, Chiellini, Bonucci, Grosso; Krasic, Melo, Sissoko, Martinez; Del Piero, Iaquinta.

Manchester City

City's progression was assured in their match against Salzburg, although they could go through as top of group with a win against Juventus. With current in-club difficulties, however, their minds may be elsewhere.

After suspension against West Ham, captain Carlos Tevez trained with the side before their trip to Italy, whether he plays is another matter.

Mario Balotelli has been left behind to remove chance of racist abuse. Aleksandar Kolarov may return after missing the West Ham match through suspension.

Possible starting XI: Given; Boateng, Richards, K Toure, Kolarov; A Johnson, Kompany, De Jong, Silva; Y Toure; Jo.

Preview and Stream : Vélez Sársfield vs Huracán, Argentina Primera Division, Dec 8, 2010

Soccer Extreme : Ricardo Gareca's Fortineros are aware they cannot concede a single point in these last two games. Velez's coach will be deploying his whole artillery in Liniers against Huracan, who has lost the last five consecutive games.

Velez will be missing a key player for this clash as Augusto Fernandez has resented a leg injury that will keep him from performing. Ricky Alvarez is likely to take over his place, joining Maxi Moalez in the creative department.

Emiliano Papa won't be able to lead the advance from the left wing, but Gareca recovers Fabian Cubero in the back line. Globos' defenders should look after Santiago Silva and Juan Manuel Martinez with great caution: having scored 11 and 9 goals respectively in 17 games, their performance is likely to have a major impact in the development of the game.

Things have not worked out as expected for Miguel Brindisi in Parque Patricios. The derby against San Lorenzo back in October was the last victory of the team, that's been left in the risk zone by River Plate, who's climbed four points above their heads.

Velez and Huracan are going through two totally different realities and the result of such clash is impossible to predict. Will Velez defy Estudiantes' leadership upon a victory? Vélez Sársfield vs Huracán Videos

Soccer Extreme : “Cristiano Ronaldo is fine. His has character and brute strength. If he doesn’t have an injury that makes it impossible for him to play, he is able to withstand a lot and he can play through pain. He will play against Valencia.”

“I wanted to have Higuain available to play, but it isn’t possible. As I did with Kaka, I will not discuss it any further. I will wait until he can return. He saw a specialist here in Madrid and I accompanied him. He also sought a second opinion outside Madrid. I don’t have Higuain and he cannot play right now.”

“Benzema may or may not play. I can also say that Morata may play or that we won’t have any attackers. Benzema trained well and has played well in recent matches. He started the last two games and has plenty of minutes in his legs. If Real Madrid play to win and lose, looking to the academy and counting on Morata is an interesting choice. If the goal is to win things immediately and not to wait to develop players, Morata has a long way to go.”

“I wasn’t upset with anyone in particular in Barcelona. I took Ozil out because I thought it was best for the team. Marcelo had already been booked and I wanted to protect him because I don’t have another left-back. There was no ulterior motive for taking out Ozil. It was just a matter of the game. Both will play tomorrow. I did not target Ozil.”

“I spoke to my men in Barcelona for about three or four minutes and that was it. It all ended there. It is easy to turn the page because the team that played well won and deserved to, and the team that played poorly lost and deserved to. If I score four or five goals on a team why can’t they score five on me? If I win the Champions League and retire, that’s that. But if I want to continue coaching, you know how football goes.”

“My grandmother died many years ago, but I always remember what she told me. You must be happy when people are jealous of you, and that is what happens with me a lot. It is only normal and it makes me happy. I don’t care if there is a rule for Mourinho and another for every other coach. The fine I was given by UEFA is historic, and according to my grandmother it is a medal. I cannot touch the ball but others can. I cannot leave the coaching ares but other can… But it’s okay.”

Real Madrid player Mesut Ozil

“This team has a ton of potential. We have a great chance to win the league. We are only two points of the lead. The best we can do is beat Valencia, which will allow us to see things from a different perspective.”

“I want to score or provide an assist to help the team in every game. That is my objective. I will be satisfied if I am able to help lead the team to victory.”

“It is easy to pla alongside Khedira because he is an extraordinary footballer and we are good friends. I am satisfied with the way I am playing, but both Sami and I are young and we must continue improving. My goal is to perform as best I can. The team supports me in every match and the coach has faith in me, which allows me to play more freely and exploit my potential.”

“Valencia has a ton of talent. They are strong as a team, they are at the top of the table and they have played good matches this season. Their attack is their most dangerous line, but we are focused on our game and we will win if we put what the coach has asked of us into practice.”

“We are two teams with offensive gameplans and with lethal players in the box, and we both like to put on a show. We want our fans to have fun, but what really counts are the three points at stake. We never want to concede goals and always try to defend as best we can. That is the foundation for winning because we know we have a lot of talent in attack and that we can score at any moment.”

“Fans support is crucial. I am very grateful for the support they have shown me. They welcomed me with open arms, as did the team. Our fans support us unconditionally and will continue doing so. The Bernabeu atmosphere is incredible and it is always nice to play there.”

The match will take place at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, Spain on Saturday, December 4, 2010. Kickoff is scheduled for 21:00 GMT (UK time), 22:00 CET (Central Europe), and 16:00 EST (USA Eastern).

Preview and Live Stream : Chelsea v Everton, Dec 4, 2010

Soccer Extreme : Chelsea have looked shadows of their former selves in the last five games only winning one game and losing their position at the top of the table. The Chelsea boss may have to have a shuffle round if he wants to produce a win with the defence the main problem for the dip in form.

Everton have started to pick up momentum following an unimpressive start to the season and now find themselves 16th in the league but have failed to win any of their last five games. David Moyes will have to motivate his team to produce a win over Chelsea.

Chelsea would be favourites to win but with both of these team lacking form it could be a goalless draw.

Preview : Lazio v Inter Milan, Dec 3, 2010

Soccer Extreme : Lazio coach Edy Reja believes his team must play "a perfect game" if they are to stun Inter Milan on Friday.

The Romans head into the encounter second in the standings, three points behind Serie A leaders AC Milan and four points above Inter.

"To beat Inter would be an important step for us," said Reja. "It would bring enthusiasm and would be a big boost in confidence for my players.

"We will need to play a perfect game but the time has come for us to beat a big club."

Lazio have lost just once this season in the Eternal City, a 2-0 defeat to city rivals Roma back in November.

Lazio coach Edy Reja

However, the Biancoceleste have struggled in recent weeks with draws at Parma and against Catania.

Reja has reason to be wary as Inter travel to the Italian capital on the back of last weekend´s 5-2 triumph over Parma.

The result was all the more impressive considering the Nerazzurri were without top scorer Samuel Eto´o through suspension.

The outcome ended a four-match winless run for Rafael Benitez´s men and lifted the team to fifth.

"Our focus is still on the scudetto," said Benitez. "The tournament is still long and the team is showing character."

Friday´s encounter in Rome will be Inter´s last league game of the year and the Nerazzurri are determined to finish on a high.

"Lazio are doing well but we want to play a great game in Rome," said Inter captain Javier Zanetti.

"Our only thoughts are on the game in Rome, we want to win because we don´t want to lose ground with the top teams in Serie A.

"Then we will think about the Club World Cup, which will end a magnificent year for us."

Victory at Lazio would be a big boost in confidence for Benitez´s men, who visit Werder Bremen in next week´s Champions League fixtures before making the journey to Dubai to prepare for the FIFA Club World Cup.

Inter are still without suspended Eto´o and injured Diego Milito, David Suazo, Julio Cesar, Maicon and Christian Chivu.

The hosts will be at full strength with defender Giuseppe Biava having shaken off an ankle injury. (espn)

Ronaldo Taunt for Barca Fans

Soccer Extreme : Cristiano Ronaldo has warned the Barcelona boo-boys that nothing they do can stop Real Madrid winning at the Nou Camp tonight.

Barca fans hate Ronaldo and Real boss Jose Mourinho so much that many are expecting the most hostile atmosphere since Luis Figo was pelted with coins, cigarette lighters, bicycle chains, mobile phones and a pig's head back in 2002.

Ronaldo said: "Anyone who doesn't like me can either shut their eyes, shut their mouths or sit at home and turn off the TV because we are coming to Barcelona to win.

"It will probably be Mourinho, not me, they abuse most because of all the things he has done to them with Chelsea and Inter.

"They can boo or whistle us as much as they want because none of us care a jot."

Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas believes Lionel Messi will be the difference between the sides tonight.

The former Barca midfielder said: "Messi is a phenomenon.

"He is like a bull, hardly ever injured. He does things no one else can.

"Real are improved this season but of course I want Barca to win." (thesun)

Video Streaming : Barcelona Vs Real Madrid - 2011 Clasico Preview & History

Preview : Barcelona vs Real Madrid, November 29, 2010

Soccer Extreme : Even in the great history of El Clasico, this is a match anticipated like no other. Barcelona, still considered by many to be the greatest club side on the planet, pit themselves against Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid, expensively assembled and the pretenders to Barca’s throne both domestically and in the eyes of the planet-wide public.

La Blaugrana have tried to step out of the whirlwind of publicity before Monday evening’s match, the timing of which has caused a great deal of controversy. Coach Pep Guardiola will certainly be happy with the talking his players have done on the field, with last weekend’s quite remarkable 8-0 victory over hapless Almeria a warning shot to their Castilian rivals.

Not taking their eye from the ball for a second, Barca produced a performance of almost equal power when they defeated Panathinaikos 3-0 in Athens on Champions League duty on Wednesday evening, serenely booking themselves a place in the last 16 with an utterly dominant performance.

Looking ahead to Sunday’s match, Xavi explained to the media: “In this game Barcelona are favourites. We play at home, we are in very good shape and we have a burning desire to win.”

These sentiments were echoed by Dani Alves, who stated: “Monday will be a tough match, a very intense match, so hopefully we can keep up our form because our opponent is motivated, but we know our own level and we will strive to meet our objective.”

Defeat would leave Barcelona trailing their great rivals by four points and heavily second favourites in the race for the Primera Division.

Great Potential

Barcelona may have been performing almost flawlessly of late, but so too have Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid. Fears that a flair-packed side could be reduced to a ruthlessly efficient unit have proven to be unfounded as los Blancos have out-scored every Primera Division side this term aside from Barca, whose 33 goals they are the equal of.

Just as one would expect from a side marshalled by the great Portuguese coach, they have proven to be immensely mentally resilient, holding out defensively when required but also showing an appetite to gamble and really make things happen on the rare occasions they have been in tricky positions. A Pedro Leon equaliser deep in stoppage time saved them from defeat in Milan and as yet Mourinho, who was once on the staff of Bobby Robson's Barca, is unbeaten in the Bernabeu hot-seat.

Mirroring their great Catalan adversaries, los Blancos have attained two terrific results over the course of the last week. A potential banana skin in the form of Athletic Bilbao was smashed clear with a very proficient 5-1 win at the Bernabeu, and then Ajax were hammered 4-0 in a match that will be best remembered for the controversial red cards of Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos.

Alonso, under scrutiny from UEFA because of the manner of his dismissal in the Netherlands, is nevertheless confident that his side have the tools to best Barca. “This team has great potential in attack, with great scoring ability. If we play well, and are strong in attack and defence, that is the recipe to win at the Camp Nou,” he explained to the media.

“This Barcelona team are very good, and are still very good. In recent years they have won many titles, and we will fight hard to beat us because it will be crucial. The two matches, both at the Camp Nou and the return will be very important.”

Mourinho’s presence will add extra spice to the affair as it was his tactical masterplan as Inter coach last season that thwarted Barcelona’s attempts to reclaim the Champions League. Relations between the Portuguese and Guardiola are frosty, so expect fireworks on and off the field.

Other Notes: Barcelona will be without left back Eric Abidal, out with a thigh injury aggravated on Tuesday. He will be replaced by Maxwell. The Blaugrana will also be missing Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whose calf is not well-enough to go. It’s a big loss offset only by Real Madrid being unlikely to park the bus and create a match where Zlatan would be the difference. Andrea Iniesta is unlikely to start, Piqué has a knock but looks likely, and a persistent back injury makes it unlikely Yaya Touré gets the call over Busquests or Keita.

For Real Madrid, Kaká is out, though given his play this year, that is a non-factor. Rafael van der Vaart has been the better player. Karim Benzema should be good enough to come off the bench, though if Merengues supporters see him, it’s probably bad news, as Barcelona would have a second half lead.

Outlook: Barcelona has played 49 matches this year and lost only three. They’ve won three in a row over Real Madrid by a 9-2 aggregate including this year’s reverse, won 1-0 while playing the last 27 minutes a man down. The last time that Barcelona won a must-win match was two years ago at Old Trafford. This is a must-win match, as neither of these teams are dropping points elsewhere in La Liga. No doubt, Real Madrid can win this match, but you would be grasping at straws to predict they would. (goal, setpieceanalysts)

Prediction:

Here we are yet again, with another tough match to call with so much on the line. En lieu of getting last week’s prediction a bit backwards, I’m going to try and get this week’s showdown right. It’s as simple as this. Barcelona are on fire and I don’t see anyone stopping them, even Real Madrid at home at El Bernabeu. Look for Messi to put them on top and Ronaldo to get frustrated and force too many shots in attempt to come from behind. Sorry Real, it may be another expensive offseason.

Manchester United are on top with ten points while Rangers are third with five. The Red Devils need a victory to ensure their participation in the knockout stages while Gers have to win to keep in battle for the second place of Group C. Valencia, who travel to Old Trafford for the final round of group fixtures in two weeks' time, are two points ahead of the Scottish champions and play today against Bursaspor with zero points. Manchester United and Glasgow Rangers go into this encounter after victories. Manchester United won Wigan Athletic 2-0 at Old Trafford for the Premier League while Rangers defeated Kilmarnock 3-2 at Rugby Park for the Scotland Premier League. However, in their last matches in Champions, The Red Devils thrashed Bursaspor 3-0 whereas Valencia crushed Rangers 3-0 at Mestalla.

Rangers will be playing at Ibrox without their star centre-back Madjid Bougherra due to hamstring injury. Maurice Edu (knee) are also set to miss out. Andy Webster (groin) is unavailable too. The Scottish champions will also be without injured striker James Beattie (hip and thigh) and Nikica Jelavic. Steven Whittaker could have opened up the space by moving away from Steven Davis and making a forward run down the line. Boss Smith will probably will count with the services of Sasa Papac, so the Gers will waver from the 5-4-1 approach they have favoured in Europe this season. Squad: McGregor, Whittaker, Foster, Weir, Broadfoot, Davis, McCulloch, Naismith, Lafferty, Miller, Fleck, Weiss, Loy, Little, Wylde, Hutton, Alexander, Papac.

Coach Alex Ferguson decided to to rest Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans will be their replacement at the heart of the back four. Preview : Auxerre v AC Milan, November 23, 2010

Soccer Extreme : When the draw for the Champions League was made, Auxerre were salivating at the prospect of meeting European heavyweights Real Madrid, AC Milan and Ajax. Though the rhetoric from the players was largely upbeat about the challenges that lay ahead, there could be little doubt that AJA were the group minnows. Their heads are on the chopping block with four games played, but equally they’re not out of the race for the last 16 yet.

Jean Fernandez’s men have picked up only three points. Those came at home last time out against Ajax, when they defied a nasty injury situation to overcome the Dutch side 2-1 thanks to goals from Frederic Sammaritano and Steeven Langil. Only two points behind second-placed AC Milan, victory on Tuesday could conceivably take the French side second.

Sammaritano is certainly not approaching the game with a defeatist attitude, stating to Foot01: “If we manage to start the match well, knowing that the fans at the Abbe-Deschamps will inspire us, nothing is impossible.

“If we win, we will be completely revived in the race. It is true that this will be complicated, because we started with three defeats in the Champions League. Milan leads the Italian championship and are a great team.”

AJA are right to carry confidence into this encounter. After a woeful start to the season they are presently one of France’s most in-form teams, though they could only draw 1-1 with Saint-Etienne at the weekend.

Mentally tough

While Auxerre have recently found their feet, AC Milan have been up and running since a three-match winless streak in Serie A was ended by a 1-0 home win over Genoa. Admittedly they would suffer defeat away to Real Madrid, while a tie in Amsterdam against Ajax wasn’t too smart either, but domestically they’ve been almost flawless since the autumn really took hold.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side came incredibly close to being the first to upset Jose Mourinho three weeks ago. A couple of goals from Filippo Inzaghi turned the match in the favour of the Italians after Gonzalo Higuain had given the visitors the lead, but a 94th minute strike from Pedro Leon denied them.

Victory would have seen AC Milan on the very brink of the knock-out stage, but as things stand they are very much in the mix to finish third should results go awry. There is little evidence that such a catastrophe is likely, with 1-0 wins over Inter and Fiorentina domestically highlighting the progress that has been made by the club over the last few months.

“We have reached a mental balance that is also evident in training during the week,” Allegri told the media after Sunday’s hard-fought success over the Fiorentina. “Credit must be paid to the boys at the back who rolled up their sleeves and battled when the visitors looked to come back at us.”

If such an attitude can be found again on Tuesday, AC Milan have to be considered favourites to pick up the points as they boast technically superior players to their hosts. (goal)

Preview : Ajax vs Real Madrid, November 23, 2010

Soccer Extreme : Ajax boss Martin Jol hailed Real Madrid counterpart Jose Mourinho as a "true craftsman" ahead of their Champions League clash.

Jol and Mourinho were adversaries in London when they managed Tottenham and Chelsea respectively and the Dutchman admits he is relishing the chance to pit himself against the Portuguese in the Group G encounter at the ArenA.

"Mourinho is a great coach and a true craftsman," he said.

"I have come up against him five or six times. He gets the most out of his team and has proved he is the best in his field."

Madrid have already qualified for the knockout phase and a point for the visitors would secure them top spot in the pool.

The stakes are higher for Ajax as they currently lie in third place, just a point behind AC Milan with two games remaining.

Breaking News : (Video) Luis Suarez bites Otman Bakkal

Jol's side have been inconsistent in domestic competition recently but goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg is adamant the players should not get bogged down by their form against the Primera Division high-flyers.
"We must enjoy playing this kind of game," he said before admitting Ajax were poor in the reverse fixture at the Bernabeu which Madrid won 2-0.

"In Madrid we did not play. It is clear we should have done better."

Ajax will have striker Luis Suarez available despite the club imposing a two-match ban on the Uruguay international after deeming him guilty of biting PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal in Saturday's goalless draw.

The ban will only apply domestically, however, meaning he will miss the Eredivisie fixtures against VVV-Venlo and NEC Nijmegen.

Madrid have left out several players carrying slight knocks to ensure they are ready for next Monday's top-of-the-table clash with Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

Gonzalo Higuain, Sami Khedira and Ricardo Carvalho will all remain in the Spanish capital with Mourinho calling up Sergio Canales and David Mateos as well as youth-team regular Alvaro Morata.

Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas is hoping 2011 will be the year when Madrid finally get past the quarter-finals, the club having fallen at that stage in each of the last six seasons.

He told www.uefa.com: "It has stuck in our heads like a little trauma, but this has happened to the players - me more than anyone - who have been here a few years.

"I've experienced and suffered this situation but the new, young players have their own experiences with previous clubs, so it's not necessarily something the squad as a whole think about.

"It's more the club which has suffered this setback in the last six years." (espn)
