Spurs and Valencia agree £8 million deal for defender

Valencia have today agreed an £8 million fee which will see Tottenham defender Pascal Chimbonda join the La Liga giants. Chimbonda has struggled to nail down a place in the Spurs starting eleven ever since Juande Ramos took charge last year, Alan Hutton taking his place at right-back.

Chimbonda joined the North London club back in 2006 after a very successful season at Wigan. The 29-year old made just over 70 appearances for Spurs during his time at White Hart Lane. It is thought now that he will join up with the rest of the Valencia squad for pre-season training on Thursday.

Aston Villa and Newcastle were also both linked with the French international but Chimbonda will now find himself in Spain next season. Valencia were said to experiencing financially difficulties of late but they have managed to splash out £8 million on what I can only describe as a tremendously average player.
