Soccer Extreme : Flavien Ndamukunda believes home advantage and thorough preps will give Rwandan teams the edge at the zonal CAVB Continental Beach Volleyball Cup slated to run from December 2-4 at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel.
Local players will contend with players from Tanzania, Burundi, Uganda and Kenya for that lone ticket to next year's CAVB Continental Beach Volleyball Cup.
Ndamukunda and Jean Luc Mbonyuwontuma together with Pierre Marshall Kwizera and Leo Fidele Mutesi will compete in the men's fray, while Emilienne Uwineza & Jeanette Niyigena and Judith Hakizimana & Charlotte Nzayisenga will compete in the ladies' category.
Ndamukunda, who is a key figure in the senior national volleyball team, is eager to build on his recent success on sand.
In 2008 and 2009, he strolled to the East African beach volleyball title.
"We have trained well for the last two weeks. We have acclimatized to the weather here and I'm sure we shall have a good tournament," the 19-year-old said.
The competition draw will be held this evening at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel.
To make the event a success, the Sports Ministry has chipped in Rwf16m while the continental body, CAVB has injected 5000 euros.
The CAVB Continental Beach Volleyball Cup is a launch pad for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
