Arsenal poised to sign United defender

Arsenal are today poised to sign Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre after the player turned down a move to Manchester City. The United veteran is more than likely to leave the club before the transfer window shuts after admitting he is frustarted with the lack of first team football.

The former French international has spent nine years at United making just over 250 appearances in the process. Sunderland are also believed to be keen on the 31-year old but it is now understood that the player himself would prefer to link up with fellow countryman Arsene Wenger at the Emirates.

It is believed that Arsenal will have to cough up only £750,000 in order to sign Silvestre and I personally feel that is a bargain. Unfortunately, Silvestre has been plagued with injuries during his time at Old Trafford which has obviously restricted his playing time but I feel if he gets himself match fit, he will be a brilliant buy for anyone.
