French striker set for Sunderland loan spell

Djibril Cisse is set to spend the season on loan with Sunderland after the Black Cats agreed an "agreement in principle" with Marseille over the transfer of the striker.Cisse has been expected to head for England this season, with Manchester City among the clubs he was linked with, particularly as his wife still lives in the north west. And today Marseille president Pape Diouf revealed the former Liverpool striker is on his way to the Black Cats.

He told Marseille's website: "An agreement in principle has been reached between OM and Sunderland for the loan of Djibril Cisse to the English club until the end of the season."Some details still need to be sorted out ahead of the confirmation of the loan."Diouf said the original plan had been for Cisse to stay with the French club, but after starting the season on the substitute's bench Sunday's match against Auxerre, when he played only the last 10 minutes, was the final straw.

This could turn out to be a very interesting move by Sunderland. A striker like Cisse would add great pace to their attack and that may just be what they need. He also has great experience at club and international level.
